Into my own

Generally, I let this piece be very modal. I found that hanging out in the Aeolian modal created the fluctuation between uncertain and hopeful. I did write the piece in F originally, but Sarah’s favorite key is F# minor. Naturally, a little finale magic happened.

Sarah will be the first to tell you that her favorite piece is next, but she has hummed the opening measure at least once a day over the past week!

A Prayer in SpringTime

HANDS DOWN Sarah’s favorite!

This took a lot of planning and deciding what was physically possible on the piano.

I knew I wanted to capture the hum of spring but then have 3 other spaces where melody could interact.

Listen and see why Sarah likes it so much!

A Strom-Line Song

The idea I wanted to capture was that my beautiful, strong Sarah can weather any storm.

C major is the ultimate goal. Instead of emphasizing V7 or vii as dominant chords, I used a common-tone diminished chord.

I incorporated hand crossing to have strikes high and low, while the right hand stays responsible for the melodic material.

The piece could be longer, but, just like the future, we don’t know when the resolution will come.

Ultimately, we all will make it through the storm.
